The service can be anything from a very quiet occasion, with just the priest and the couple,or a much larger event with family and friends. There are no fees for a small, quiet occasion; for larger occasions, or if you require an organist or bellringers, then ythe resevant fees are payable. We are happy to meet you and help you plan such a special services.

You will find suitable hymns and readings on the relevant pages of our 'Wedding Resources' section.  The following is an outline of the service we usually use, but this can be customised to meet your requirements.

Order of Service for Marriage Thanksgiving (outline)

Priest   In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Jesus said; "Remain in my love.  If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete."
                                                (Jn 15: 9-11)
The grace and peace of God the Father, who hallowed the marriage bond by his presence at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and made it the sign of Christ and his Church, be with you all.
All        And also with you.

Priest   Almighty God,
            you send your Holy Spirit
            to be the life and light of all your people
            Open the hearts of these your children
            to the riches of his grace,
            that they may bring forth the fruit of the  Spirit
            in love and joy and peace
            through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Renewal of vows

The following is said in turn by husband and wife addressing each other by name

In the presence of God,
            I (N) renew my commitment to you (N) in marriage.
            All that I am I give to you
            and all that I have I share with you.
            Whatever the future holds,
            may I continue to love you and stand by you
            as long as we both shall live.

(If rings are exchanged, the following may be used:

Priest   Lord, bless and consecrate the love
            which N & N have for one another.
            May these rings (this ring) be a symbol
            of their true faith in one other
            and always remind them of their love.
            May they continue to enjoy your peace and goodwill
            and live together in love and faithfulness
            to the end of their lives.  Amen.)

Priest   Almighty and eternal God,
            you have so exalted the bond of marriage
            that it has become the sacramental sign
            of your Son's union with the Church;
            Look with favour on N and N
            as they renew their commitment
                         to each other in marriage.
            Grant that in good times and in bad
            they may continue to grow in love for each other;
            that they may be of one heart in the bond of peace.
            Lord, in their struggles let them rejoice
            that you are near to help them;
            in their needs let them know
            that you are there to rescue them;
            in their joys let them see
            that you are the source and completion
                        of every happiness.
            This we ask through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Let us pray

Priest   Father all-holy, you have made marriage the great symbol of Christ's love for his Church; bestow on these your servants the fullness of your own love.
            For this we pray
All        Lord, hear our prayer

Priest   Father all-holy, the faithful one, you call us to faithfulness; fill with your blessings these your servants who renew their marriage vows.
            For this we pray
All        Lord, hear our prayer

Priest   Father all-holy, through our human experience we share in the mystery of Christ; grant to us your servants serenity in good times and bad, and the will to stay close to Christ and live for him alone.
            For this we pray
All        Lord, hear our prayer

Priest   Father all-holy, it is your will that married life should be a lesson in Christian living; grant that all husbands and wives may be witnesses to the wonders of your Son's love.
            For this we pray
All        Lord, hear our prayer

Priest   (Father all-holy, you have blessed this marriage with the gift of children; we thank you for family life; for all its joys and sorrows shared; and pray that through the joy of human love we may grow in love for you
            For this we pray
All        Lord, hear our prayer)

All        The Lord’s Prayer

            Our Father, who art in heaven,
            hallowed be thy name;
            thy kingdom come,
            thy will be done,
            on earth as it is in heaven.
            Give us this day our daily bread;
            and forgive us our trespasses,
            as we forgive those who trespass against us.
            And lead us not into temptation,
            but deliver us from evil.
            For thine is the kingdom,
            the power and the glory,
            for ever and ever.  Amen.

Priest   And now may the God of hope fill you
                        with every joy in believing.
            May the peace of Christ abound in your hearts.
            May the Holy Spirit enrich you with his gifts,
            And may almighty God bless you all,
            the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
